Table Tennis Rules

Table tennis rules are the best way to learn to play an effective game. Many people find that this game, is as intricate as playing tennis on a court. Most players find that there are both official and unofficial rules so we will discuss some of both. The rules govern how you play in a friendly game or in a more sophisticated or professional game. For the general fun game of table tennis, you will need a table with a net, two paddles and a ball. You will alternately hit the ball back and forth until someone misses. The general rules for table tennis will apply to singles; doubles are just a little different.
For the single player, a match is played until one player wins three out of five games. This can take a short or a long time depending on the experience of the player. There are eleven points in each game, but a player must win by two points. So, as an example, players are almost evenly matched and the points are distributed as 9 and 10. One of the players will have to make 12 points in order to win, if the player with 9 points doesn’t score another point.
A point is scored each time someone starts the ball going back and forth and one person misses the ball. Or, it is won when the ball goes off the side of the table. Each player serves two times and then they switch. After each game, the players must switch sides of the table. This is so that one player will not have an advantage over the other player.
To serve a ball, the player must start with the ball in the palm of their hand. Then, the server tosses the ball up and hits it to first bounce on their side of the table, then hit on the opponent's side of the table. Each player must keep the ball moving from their side of the table to the other side; if the ball hits the net, it is a "let serve" but is not scored.
The official table tennis rules will tell an individual everything from the regulation of the table to the types of paddles and balls that need to be used. There are also a lot of words that are used that are specific to table tennis and these are spelled out in official rules. Unless someone is playing tournament table tennis, the official rules can be quite overwhelming.
Most people are playing fun games just to enjoy table tennis but in tournament play, table tennis rules are taken very seriously. If you are playing in a tournament it is best to study the official rules so that you have the game under control. You will need to understand that everyone else will also be following these rules and there are penalties for not doing what is required.
Table tennis is a fun game that many people enjoy all over the world. It is relaxing and is also an Olympic sport for some countries.
